Washington Leadership Conference

Each year, FFA members from all over the United States travel to Washington, D.C. to attend the Washington Leadership Conference (WLC).
During the five-day event, attendees learn how to become effective leaders by teaching them to know their purpose, value people, take action, and serve others.
They leave WLC with the knowledge and the confidence to act in ways that help their schools, community, and their country.
This is no ordinary leadership experience!
You will spend a week putting these skills into practice as you make new friends from across the United States and tour our nation's capital. This action-packed week will help you gain self-confidence and leadership skills to take back to your FFA chapter and share with other members.
Have I got your attention!?
If you would like to attend WLC you can apply for a scholarship to help cover the cost! This is sponsored by the Oregon FFA Alumni.
If selected as a finalist you will interview at the State FFA Convention in March.
Applications are Due January 31, 2013.

Service: That's what holding an FFA office, whether it is a chapter, state or national, is all about. Service means giving assistance to another or in this case, to your chapter, state or the National FFA Organization for the benefit of fellow FFA members. Universally, it is important for all chapter officers to work well with their team of officers. Chapter officers are charged with the interest of the chapter and its members. As a chapter officer, you serve as a leader and role model for all members and work to ensure that they are engaged in chapter activities. Through collaboration with your FFA advisor and connecting with community, you will gain valuable and diverse experience and skills. Your role as an officer is to guide and inspire others as the key messenger for agriculture education and the FFA.

Oregon FFA CDE Manual
Career Development Events (CDE)
Career opportunities abound within today’s agriculture industry. Career Development Events (CDEs) help students develop the abilities to think critically, communicate clearly, and perform effectively in a competitive job market. There are 24 CDEs, covering job skills in everything from communications to mechanics. Some events allow students to compete as individuals, while others allow them to compete in teams.
The State Career Development Events Manual for the Oregon FFA Association contains the official rules and regulations for most State FFA CDE’s and Activities. All State FFA Career Development Events are educational activities organized by the Oregon FFA Association under the advisement of the State CDE Committee. They are designed to complement classroom instruction by giving students an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a competitive situation. Each CDE has been specifically developed to test skills and knowledge of students in a particular area of agriculture.
For more information, talk to Ms. Gomes about how you can get involved in the CDE awards program.
